Eastern Suburbs Sydney Information
Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs is the area directly to the east and south-east of the Sydney CBD. It is an unofficial term without defined boundaries but is often used to describe the suburbs within the local government areas of Woollahra, Waverley, Randwick and part of the City of Sydney. The ABS reports on an "Eastern Suburbs Statistical Subdivision" but this area only includes Woollahra, Waverley and Randwick. According to the 2006 Census on the ABS definition, the area’s population is just over 230,000.
Geographically, the Eastern Suburbs extends from South Head at Watsons Bay in the north and south to Botany Bay. The northern area is home to Vaucluse, Rose Bay, Darling Point, Dover Heights, Double Bay, Point Piper, Woollahra, Watsons Bay, Potts Point, Rushcutters Bay, Elizabeth Bay and Bellevue Hill. These northern areas are the location of some of Australia’s most sought after and expensive real estate and some of Sydney's finest homes are in this area, which is much sought after for its harbour views.
The areas southern suburbs are Bondi Junction, Bondi, Bronte, Tamarama, Queens Park, Clovelly, Coogee, Randwick and Kensington. West of Bondi Junction are the inner-city suburbs of Centennial Park, Paddington, Darlinghurst, Moore Park and Kings Cross. At the far south of the eastern suburbs is "South-Eastern Sydney" including the suburbs Maroubra, Matraville, Malabar, Little Bay and La Perouse.
